Frequently Asked Questions

"Can anyone be hypnotised?"

The hypnotic state is a completely natural altered state of consciousness - a heightened state of relaxation. It is a state that you already experience on a day to day basis - for example when you nearly miss your stop on a train as your mind has wandered. We also experience this state immediately before you drop off to sleep and immediately before you wake up.

"Will you be able to control me?"

You will always be in control. The therapist and client work together as a team and you cannot be made to do anything you are not comfortable with.

"Will I be asleep "

You will be able to hear everything that goes on around you - you will simply be aware of the deeply relaxed state immediately before you drop off to sleep and immediately before you wake up. It is similar to the feeling of "knowing" the alarm is about to ring in the morning or hear a distant car drive away at night.

"Will I need someone to collect me?"

You will feel absolutely fine after your treatment and fully able to return home or to work - another major benefit of hypnotherapy.

"Will I remember everything that happens in the session?"

You will remember everything that you need and is important for you to remember. You may not remember every detail but you may find that as time passes you remember more than you did initially.

"How long does a Hypnotherapy session last?"

The Stop Smoking Session lasts between 1 – 1½ hours depending on the client. Sessions for other treatments are one hour.

"How much does it cost?"

The Stops Smoking treatment costs £299.00. This included free back up sessions if they are required. All other treatments are £96.50 per session. Corporate treatment plans are available on request.

"How effective is the stop smoking treatment over other treatments available on the market?"

Research by The New Scientist Magazine (1992) has shown hypnotherapy to be the safest and quickest way to quit smoking. People were six times more likely to quit with one session of hypnosis and remain non-smokers over 12 months after their session, compared to those who used Nicotine Replacement Therapy.

The advantage of hypnosis is that it removes the dependency and craving of quitting without risking the side effects of rashes and potential long term damage that has been associated with Zyban. Those using NRT are know to have to try to quit on average six times before succeeding, thereby investing heavily in substitute products and addictive chemicals, before developing a stronger will or abandoning any belief in quitting altogether.

Studies in America have shown that hypnosis is the most effective method of stopping smoking for good with an 85% success rate in just one session. This contrasts with the low rates of 10% success for those using nicotine gum and 6% compared with willpower alone. (Mathews, R (1992) New Scientist, Vol. 136, No. 1845, p.6.)
